The Yorkshire Enterprise Network (YEN) have announced their first business networking event of 2017. The session will be hosted by YEN strategic partners Irwin Mitchell, who will hold the event at their Leeds office on Wellington Place. The event will be free to attend and take place on Thursday 19th January from 8:30am.

Event Title: Protecting your business: the Brand, People and Data

Irwin Mitchell's specialist lawyers will present an informative and interactive session on Protecting your Business: your Brand, People and Data.

Brand
What Intellectual Property is and why it is a valuable asset to your business, how you can better protect and maximise the benefit of it and how to identify any risks.

People
We will highlight some of the common HR issues which commonly expose businesses to Tribunal claims and unexpected employee costs as well as some of the key updates on employment law. We will give practical suggestions for reducing risk whilst ensuring effective outcomes.

Data
The Data Protection regime is about to be completely overhauled via a European regulation. This will impact on all businesses which use/access/store personal data. We will look at key issues arising from the legislation such as the need for increased transparency, the percentage of turnover fines, compulsory data breach notification and the right to be forgotten. We will look at these from a practical point of view such as what privacy policies and fair processing notices need to look like under the new legislation and consider what the impact of Brexit will be. We will also discuss recent guidance from the ICO and the approach of the UK Courts.

There is an NCP car park with over 500 spaces opposite the Irwin Mitchell offices on Wellington Place. There are also other Leeds City Council car parks available within a five minute walk.

The event will start at 8:30am with breakfast, before the speakers and Q&A session at 9:00am. This will be followed by a session of networking until 11:00am.
