2017 is a landmark year for Yorkshire and the UK’s most internationally renowned artist.

Bradford’s David Hockney turned 80 this year and there have been a number of exhibitions reflecting on his life and work.

To mark the occasion the Brick Box Ladies, a community-based arts organisation have organised a big celebration in Bradford’s Lister Park on Sunday, July 9th. This also coincides with the opening of a new David Hockney Gallery at the city’s Cartwright Hall Museum.

To keep in with the celebratory feeling the Arts Council of England have also announced that it is to plough over £5 million into the county’s arts organisations from 2018. This will benefit a diverse selection of museums, galleries, dance and music companies, plus literature festivals.

The Arts Council commented: “Over the next four years we are further widening the impact of our funding and more places across Yorkshire will benefit. We want to make sure that our investment is reaching as many people as possible, from the towns and cities in Yorkshire to the rural parts of the county.”

The arts tend to get hit hardest when it comes to cuts in funding so this Arts Council boost is very good news for our region as we continue to deliver on projects that not only bring in much-needed tourism revenue but enrich our daily lives.
