A Bradford businessman has stood down from a home shopping company which he helped develop for more than 17 years.

Express Gifts, part of Burley-in-Wharfedale-based Findel plc, announced Nasser Malik was leaving to pursue “a range of personal ambitions”. Managing director Phil Maudsley, said: “During his time as financial and customer services director, Nasser has contributed significantly to the ongoing development and growth of Express Gifts and the expansion of credit services. He has driven and overseen some major and key developments both harnessing technology and seeking to meet changing requirements and he has been a key member of the Board.”

He said that Mr Malik would be sorely missed at the online and home catalogue shopping company and added that the resignation would lead to changes at the company.

“Given the size of the role currently and the significant change agenda within financial services we have decided to separate the customer services and financial services functions to allow an increased focus on each,” Mr Maudsley said.

Mr Malik said: “It’s been a wonderful journey from setting up the Express Gifts Financial Services arm 17 years ago to its current status, as a significantly sized operation for the Findel group, which provides the bulk of our profits.

“I’m extremely proud to leave a legacy of mature operations, state-of-the-art systems, and a very experienced and competent management team.”

“The company is well positioned to go from strength to strength on the back of our record performances over the last two years.”

Mr Malik has set up a specialist Financial Services Consultancy (NMC) to provide expert services to large FS and Retail Credit clients in the UK and overseas, including a contract to Express Gifts Ltd.

He is currently Chairman of the Yorkshire Enterprise Network and Malik House Business Centres and has plans to develop existing personal businesses as well as new ventures in the UK and overseas. Mick Bowen will take up the role of customer services director and is promoted to the Express Gifts Board. An interim appointment for the financial services role will be announced shortly.
