The biggest soft drinks production plant in Europe has built a solar farm the size of 12 football pitches near its Wakefield factory.
Coca-Cola European Partners say the site will generate up to five megawatts of energy, which is expected to supply around 15% of all the electricity used at the factory. That’s enough to produce more than 300 plastic bottles and 900 cans a minute!
Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and Regeneration, Councillor Denise Jeffery, said: βIt is very good news that Coca-Cola, a leading company with a large factory in Wakefield, has chosen solar energy as a sustainable form of energy to support production of its products. This is great for the district, supporting our commitment to reducing carbon emissions locally.”
