The decision to transfer 400,000 objects from the Royal Photographic Society (RPS) from Bradford’s National Media Museum to the V&A in Kensington, London as been described has an ‘appalling act of cultural vandalism’.

MP for Bradford South, Judith Cummins, has criticised the decision which was discussed by the NMM’s trustees nearly a year ago, but only became public knowledge at the beginning of February.

The transfer of the valuable RPS collection and the abandoning of the International Film Festival along with an impending name change, were all decided by the board of trustees 200 miles away in London and is seen by some groups as yet another action that is seriously undermining the Northern Powerhouse concept.

Saw in the T&A about Jo Quinton being forced to explain this ravaging of Media Museum exhibits. Glad they’re acknowledging this, but I’d love to hear the spiel about how this is a good thing that we’re all just misunderstanding this theft.
