A meeting at a YEN networking event led to the organisation of a charity fashion show at Forster’s Bistro.

Bradford-based Tongues Will Wag Fashion are putting on the show in collaboration with Forster’s on Friday 15th May to raise funds for Cancer Support Bradford and Airedale.

Doors open at 6.30pm giving guests chance to browse the VIP shop then the fashion show starts at 8.30pm.

The organisers are also looking for local businesses to donate raffle prizes to raise even more for the charity.

The idea for the fashion show came about when Danielle Watson, owner of the online fashion boutique, attended her first YEN networking event at Forster’s. The bistro and deli overlooking City Park in Centenary Square, Bradford, is part of Forster Community College – itself a social enterprise helping young people into hospitality sector careers.

Danielle says: “Like many, I had not been into the city centre for about 15 years and heard about the YEN event from a contact, Gerry Crookes of PR firm Crux Communications. When I arrived I was amazed to see the investments that have been put into the re-development of Bradford and was totally taken aback by the transformation that has taken place. I met lots of business people who are all trying to achieve the same goal – to put Bradford back on the map and encourage people back into the city centre.”

“The fabulous ‘Forster’s Bistro’ is an amazing venue, lots of light, very friendly staff and Marc the manager cannot do enough to ensure your time spent there is a total eating and drinking experience. At the YEN event, I met the owner Shelia Philpot who felt that with them being in hospitality and myself in retail, our businesses would work well together – and they invited me to produce a fashion show on behalf of Cancer Support Bradford and Airedale.”

Director of Yorkshire Enterprise Network Sheraz Malik says: “This is the sort of story that really makes the work we do feel so worthwhile. YEN exists primarily to bring businesses from across Yorkshire together to create strong relationships and boost the local economy.”

“But every so often something extra special like this happens and when a great charitable cause also benefits it’s a real added bonus. We hope all the businesses who attend YEN networking will go along and support this fabulous fundraising event. We’re also delighted to hear that our events are helping to get the message out that Bradford is on the up again and very much ‘open for business’.”

Entrance to the fashion show is by guest list, with the £10 donation to be paid on the night. Guests will be greeted with a glass of sparkling wine and canapes on arrival.
