Gerry Sutcliffe will be joining Jane Vincent and Sheraz Malik at our next YEN networking event at The BeerHouse on Thursday 30th July. The former Labour MP represented Bradford South for over 20 years, starting in 1994 and continuing on until 2015. He was also the Minister for Sport and Tourism. This passion for sport has carried on after he stood down as MP, with his involvement in IMAS (International Mixed Ability Sports) who are a community interest company promoting the development of inclusive educational projects, and the expansion of Mixed Ability sports in England and across Europe. This would then lead to him becoming a patron for the organisation in October 2014.

Gerry will be speaking briefly about their first ever ‘International Mixed Ability Rugby Tournament’ which will be held in Yorkshire from the 17th till the 22nd of August 2015. There’s also a dedicated conference and other educational workshops coinciding with the event. The tournament will be the host of at least 10 European Mixed Ability teams, as well as the RFU 6 English Regions, who will play a Rugby Festival and promote the model to a wider audience and encourage social inclusion.

Regarding his work with IMAS, Gerry said that “It is my pleasure to support the International mixed ability competition to be played in Bradford in 2015. This is a great opportunity to develop sporting and educational links through rugby. Raising awareness of disabilities and promoting well being through sport is something that I have always believed in and I hope will attract support from all sections of society.”

You can see Gerry Sutcliffe, along with other confirmed speakers; Jane Vincent and Sheraz Malik, at our free business networking event on Thursday 30th July 2015 at The BeerHouse, 24 North Parade, Independent Quarter, BD1 3HT, Bradford.

Drinks reception and registration begins at 6:00pm.
